Kenji Naemura graduated in 1962 from the University of Tokyo, Faculty of Engineering, from which he also obtained a Doctor’s degree in 1992. Currently, he is Professor of the Graduate School of Media and Governance and of the Faculty of Environmental Information, Keio University at Shona Fujisawa Campus, Fujisawa City, Japan. His areas of research include information communication systems, technical standards and intellectual property systems. He sits on the Boards of Directors of the Engineering Academy of Japan and the Japan Society of Information and Communication Research. He is also responsible for two projects related to the internet content rating and filering: (1) R&D on content rating and filtering technologies at the Yokohama Content Research Center Telecommunications Advancement Organization of Japan, (2) application of server-based filtering software in schools within the Framework of the 100-School Networking Project (Phase 2) and the E Square Project of the Center for Education Computing.
His previously activities include: R&D on logic design of switching systems, error control codes and computer communications at the laboratories of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (1962-1988), the design of hardware and diagnostic programs for the ILLIAC IV Supercomputer at the University of Illinois, U.S.A., as Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science (1967-1969), and the management of intellectual property rights, Internet applications and technical standardization as NTT’s Associate Vice President and Executive Manager of its R&D Information, Patent and Licensing Center (1989-1992).
