Consultant to the Bertelsmann Foundation

Jens Waltermann holds the Chair of the Board of the Internet Content Rating Association for the Bertelsmann Foundation, Germany (www.stiftung.bertelsmann.de). He is a consultant with Solon Management Consulting GmbH in Berlin (www.solon.de), Germany, specializing in public policy consulting to major firms of the new economy, public sector consulting and in strategic advice to public-private ventures on the Internet.
Until April 2000 he was Deputy Head of the Media Division at the Bertelsmann Foundation, Germany, where he was responsible for all media policy initiatives as well as the strategic and human resources development of the foundation´s media division.
Mr. Waltermann joined Bertelsmann in 1997 as Executive Assistant to the company´s then Chairman and CEO Mark Wössner. As such he was responsible for the concept, management and organization of the Carl Bertelsmann-Prize 1998. A prestigious 300.000 DM Award given for “Innovation and Responsibility in the Information Society”.
From 1998 until recently he chaired a global network of experts on Internet content self-regulation comprising senior representatives of Internet business, media regulation, civil rights and self-regulatory initiatives, foundations and academia from 11 countries.
Mr. Waltermann received a J.D. at the Goethe-Universität Frankfurt/Main and studied international law at the Université de Genève. After working in commercial litigation and arbitration with the international law firm Baker and McKenzie in Frankfurt, Berlin and Sydney he spent two years from 1995 to 1997 as a McCloy Scholar at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Mr. Walterman is admitted to practice as an attorney in Frankfurt/Main. His publications include:
