Internet Content Rating Association

Netscape Navigator – Log on to NetWatch and scroll to the very bottom of the page. Check or uncheck the box to allow or not to allow access to unrated sites as shown below:

To find this function in Internet Explorer (5.0 and above) click Tools>Internet Options, then click the Content tab to find the dialogue box below:

Click the Settings button and enter your password to bring up the main Content Advisor dialogue box, as shown below:

Now click the General tab to get the dialogue box below:

In versions of Internet Explorer 5.0 and upwards, there is also the opportunity to add sites to an Approved List thus allowing parents to develop their own approved and not-approved lists. Click the Approved Sites tab:

To add a site of which you approve, first type its url (its web address) into the box at the top:

Notice that two buttons are now available: “Always” and “Never”. Click Always to allow access, “Never” to block it, both irrespective of any RSACi rating they may or may not have.

Disallowing access to unrated sites does place a significant restriction on your web access. If you select this option, you will almost certainly want to make extensive use of the Approved Sites function to allow easy access to your favourite sites.  The alternative strategy may be more to your liking, namely: allowing access to unrated sites but blocking access to specific sites using the Approved Sites function.

Finally, please note that Internet Explorer’s Content Advisor will not block access to sites you have already visited as the relevant information is drawn from your hard drive, not from the internet. If you do wish to block access to a site already visited therefore, you should delete your Temporary Internet Files. To do this, click Tools>Internet Options and click the Delete Files button shown below:
