ICRA: Internet Content Rating Association::: Choice not censorship

The text below is the English language version of the page that introduces ICRAplus which is almost ready for full release. As we put the finishing touches to it, we would be very grateful for help in identifying bugs and generally testing the system. If you would like to take part in the beta test, please note the following:

  • Please let us know as much as possible about your tests. If you find a bug, we need to be able to recreate the problem before we can fix it. Therefore, we’ll ask you to tell us what you did immediately before the problem arose
  • Whilst every effort has been made to ensure that the software will not cause any damage to your computer, installation is done at your own risk. As stated in the End User Licence Agreement, and especially as this is a beta test version, neither ICRA nor our partners can accept any responsibility for any problems caused by installation of the software.
  • The feedback form includes several questions to help you to help us. After you have carried out your tests, please use the form at www.icra.org/icraplus/feedback/ (or just click the feedback button below right).

Thank you on behalf of our partners in this project, Optenet and NCSR “Demokritos”.

  7. Uninstaller for people who’ve forgotten the password.
  8. Some inconsistencies of block/allow decisions by individual filters in some circumstances

  10. Clash with Norton Ads-Free browser, other clashes with Norton Personal Firewall software believed to be fixed

ICRAplus is more than just another internet filter. It is the foundation that allows you to select and combine several filters to produce the precise solution you’re looking for.

Naturally, ICRAplus fully supports ICRA’s self-labelling system. But as well as recognizing ICRA labels, it can also work with additional filters and block or allow access to a website based on a whole variety of different sources of information.

You are strongly encouraged to install one or more of the optional filters available for use with ICRAplus. The core unit is unlikely to offer a satisfactory solution if used purely on its own.

Key features of ICRAplus:

  • Reads ICRA labels, offering fine control over access to labelled sites
  • Support for additional modules that use other technologies to filter web content, all controlled through a single interface
  • Support for sets of filtering rules, block and allow lists provided by third parties
  • It’s free!
