If you have direct access to your server, you probably know things like the hardware manufacturer, what operating system it’s running, what server software it’s running (usually Apache or IIS) and, if it’s not you, the names of the individual support staff you call if it goes wrong. If you don’t know any of the above details then you almost certainly won’t have direct access to the server which hosts your website. If your webspace is part of a package deal with your ISP that includes things like dial up numbers, e-mail addresses and a limited amount of webspace, then you certainly don’t own your own server and you should return to the main FAQ page.
