ICRA labels are written using the Resource Description Framework (RDF). This is the key technology behind the “Semantic Web.” [1]
“The Semantic Web is an extension of the current web in which information is given well-defined meaning, better enabling computers and people to work in cooperation.”

ICRA labels are therefore part of a much bigger effort to make the web easier and ultimately more rewarding to use. There is a great deal of information publicly available about the Semantic Web. A good place to start is the World Wide Web Consortium’s website at [3].
The particular application of RDF to labelling, whether ICRA labels or any other kind, is defined by a schema described at [4].
For a quick overview of the potential for Semantic Web to aid in the development of trust and online safety, see the short series of slides that give an outline of the technology [5].
Note: To accommodate those using PICS-based filtering systems (in particular Internet Explorer’s Content Advisor), ICRA also delivers a simplified version of its vocabulary in the form of a PICS label along with its Link tags.
