Francisco Martín Abreu

Born on 8 August 1963, Francisco Martín graduated from the Escuela Superior de Ingenieros Industriales de San Sebastian University of Navarra, where he got an Industrial Engineer degree. From 1987 he worked in research activities at the Centro de Estudios e Investigaciones Técnicas (CEIT) and at the Engineering School of the University of Navarra, specializing in Computer Science applied to Manufacturing Control Systems. He got his Ph.D. degree in 1994 with research work on Manufacturing Control Systems.

He has participated in several European research projects covering the following Computer Science techniques: Object Oriented Programming, Distributed Computing (OMG CORBA/Microsoft DCOM), Object Oriented Design and Analysis (UML), Real-time computing, Parallel computing, Software Engineering and CASE tools, Manufacturing Communication (ISO MMS), Manufacturing data representation and management (ISO STEP). Francisco Martín has published more than ten papers in the field of Manufacturing Control Systems and has been the director of two Ph.D. thesis in this area.

In 1996, Francisco Martín founded OPTENET (previously EDUNET) the only European company at that moment commercializing a self developed filtering solution for the protection of children against harmful contents in the Internet.

In addition, Francisco Martín participates in several European projects for the promotion of the protection of children against harmful and illegal content on the internet, such as: INCORE, INFONET, SECURENET, NETPROTECT and INHOPE.

Presently, Francisco Martín is a member of the ICRA Advisory Board.
