The Sift project ran for 18 months from February 2002 to July 2003 and brought ICRA together with Spanish filtering solutions company Optenet the Greek National Centre for Scientific Research (NCSR “Demokritos”). It was co-funded by the European Union’s Internet Action Plan.
Optenet led the project and did the bulk of the development work beginning with the code from ICRA’s demonstration software ICRAfilter. Demokritos trained their Artificial Intelligence agent Filterix to classify web content in terms of the ICRA vocabulary covering nudity and sexual material – within milliseconds.
