Launch offer – only $35 for a year!

Please fill in the form below to begin the ICRAchecked process. When the form is submitted the system will:

  1. Visit your site(s) and check that it is/they are labelled. Please note: only sites that get a green light using the ICRA label tester can be accepted for ICRAchecked; therefore we recommend that you test your site(s) before proceeding. (Guidance for labelling more complicated sites may be found here.)
  2. Present you with the label data the system has found and ask you to review it
  3. Send you an e-mail with instructions for confirming your registration and that the data is correct. We will not ask you to pay the (non-refundable) administration fee of $35 (35 US Dollars) until the confirmation stage. (Discounts for multiple site submissions are available.)

We are only able to review sites in English for the time being but will be extending the number of languages covered in the very near future. Further notes are given below.

Discounts

  • 3 – 5 sites can be submitted for a total cost of $100
  • 6 – 10 sites can be submitted for a total cost of $150
  • If you wish to submit substantially larger numbers of sites or you regularly create new sites, please contact us through the contact page.

To satisfy the ICRAchecked registration process:

  • All websites registered for ICRAchecked must be fully labelled using ICRA’s RDF-based system.
  • If access to your content is restricted to subscribers through some sort of login system, ICRA must be given full access to it. From time to time ICRA will revisit the site to ensure the accuracy of the data offered so the login details you supply must be valid for as long as the site remains in the ICRAchecked system (why this is safe*)

  • The websites given must exactly match the host(s) listed in the labels file. This does not affect the general principle that a labels file may list any number of hosts and may reside on any website, it simply means that the list of hosts in the RDF file and the list of websites entered in the above form must match.

There is no universally accepted definition of ‘a website’. Consider the difference between a small personal website and a major news and entertainment portal. However, for the purposes of ICRAchecked, a definition is necessary. The following is unavoidably technical in nature and reflects the algorithm used by the registration process to determine how many websites are being submitted for review. Non-technical users will be relieved to know that unless you operate mutliple sites with multiple domain names, you can safely skip the detail!

For the purposes of ICRAchecked, ‘a website’ is defined as follows:

  • A website must have a host name and, optionally, a path that is common to all resources. For example, ‘all resources on http://www.example.com’ or ‘all resources on http://personal.example.com/~username/’.
  • If two given websites have different IP addresses, they are different websites.
  • All subdomains of the given host are included; therefore, if example.com is given as the host then http://example.com, http://subdomain1.example.com and http://subdomain2.example.com are treated as one website. With the exception of the www subdomian, if subdomain.example.com is given then only that host and its subdomains are counted as part of the website.
  • The ‘www’ subdomain is always ignored. www.example.com is treated as example.com. However, if the website only exists on its www subdomain then the www must be included to satisfy the next point.
  • The given host must map to an IP address (the registration process performs a DNS look up).
  • If a line by line analysis of source code of two websites shows that they are more than 90% identical, then they are treated as a single website.

Our own websites provide a good exemplar. There are 6 relevant domains: icra.org, icra.org.uk, www.icra.tv and rsac.org, fosi.org and fosinstitute.org. Accessing any of these sites links to a single labels file that lists all the hosts.

  • Our primary domains are icra.org and fosi.org. These two are tighly integrated so that, for instance, the icra.org ‘homepage’ is actually at fosi.org/icra/. These two domains therefore count as ‘a website’.
  • icra.org.uk is a copy of icra.org and so, for this discussion, does not count as a website but must be included in the submission process because the labels file states that icra.org.uk is covered.
  • In the same way, fosinstitute.org is an alias for fosi.org.
  • Notice that the ‘www’ subdomain is given for www.icra.tv. That’s because icra.tv, without the www, is not mapped to an IP address. An error would be raised in the registration process if icra.tv were given as one of ICRA’s websites. It is, however, another copy of icra.org and so does not count towards our tally of websites
  • rsac.org (or www.rsac.org if you like, they’re both mapped to the same IP address as the others) is a different website since it is not a copy of icra.org

The six websites therefore boil down to just two: icra.org/fosi.org and rsac.org.

It is an essential tenet of ICRAchecked that it is possible to contact the content provider. Furthermore, it is necessary to match up payments and registrations as part of the administrative process. Both of these entail the collection and storage by ICRA of private details. These are not shared beyond what is necessary for the operation of the service and neither ICRA nor its partners uses the data for any other purpose. ICRA will never disclose or sell your private data to anyone. The table below shows what information is collected by ICRA and, if applicable, with whom it is shared. If you wish to remove your entry from the ICRAchecked system you can send a request to do so through the contact page
