The Family Online Safety Institute: Protecting your online future

We’ve done our best to make labelling your website as easy as possible, however, we recognize that it can be confusing, especially for non-technical webmasters. As part of ICRAchecked, therefore, we offer the Label Assist service which comprises:

  1. A review of your site and the creation of the appropriate label(s)
  2. Hosting the label(s) on our server (so you don’t have to upload anything to your own)
  3. Personal assistance with linking your site to your label(s)
  4. Automatic entry in the ICRAchecked database

Please note step 3. Whether you label your site yourself or we do it for you through Label Assist, only you can link your site to your label. Whichever means you use to create your website we can guide you through what needs to be done – but only you can post material on your own website.

As with ICRAchecked, bulk discounts are available for Label Assist as follows:

  • 1 site $100
  • 2 – 5 sites $175
  • 6 – 10 sites $250

If access to your content is restricted to subscribers through some sort of login system, ICRA must be given full access to it. From time to time ICRA will revisit the site to ensure the accuracy of the data offered so the login details you supply must be valid for as long as the site remains in the ICRAchecked system (why this is safe*)

We are only able to review sites in English for the time being but will be extending the number of languages covered in the very near future.

* We treat any subscription data with extreme care. It is NOT stored on the ICRA server (or any other webserver). Only the review staff have access to this data.

FOSI’s mission is to help enable parents and caregivers around the world identify and restrict access by their children and others to Internet sites that they deem inappropriate.

B. FOSI Is Obligated to Control the ICRA Name.

The ICRA labelling and filtering systems are protected by the U.S. and European Copyright laws and the ICRA name and logo are protected by the U.S. and European Trademark laws. The Family Online Safety Intitute is a registered charity in the UK, registration number 1095268.

1 United States Internal Revenue Code Requirements:

A charity’s name may be properly used only in pursuit of its mission or, if for the benefit of a private person or entity, only by determination of its governing board.

2. The U.S. Trademark and Patent Office.

FOSI has U.S. Trademark Registrations for the mark “ICRA.” As a trademark registrant, FOSI has the right and obligation to prohibit the unauthorized use of its mark for any commercial purposes. As used, the term must indicate that it is trademarked, thus: ICRA®

C. End-User Obligations.

1. Basic Obligations.

No one is permitted to use the ICRA name unless specifically authorized via a signed agreement with FOSI or by having properly applied ICRA labels to their site. The FOSI and ICRA names may be used accurately, but may not otherwise be used for commercial purposes without specific written authorization and may never be used in any misleading manner, such as to support a claim about a company, service, product, or website for which FOSI has not provided written approval.

2. ICRAchecked Sites.

If a site with an ICRAchecked label is determined by FOSI staff or an entity on FOSI’s behalf to be inaccurately labelled, the site can either correct the labels or appeal to the FOSI Board. Unless determined otherwise by the ICRA Board, the inaccurately labelled site must discontinue its use of the FOSI name and its claim to be ICRA labelled. FOSI reserves the right to delete a site that it has determined is inaccurately labelled from the ICRAchecked database of sites.

3. Disclaimer.

FOSI may revoke one’s right to use the ICRA name(s) and/or may require that use of its name(s) be accompanied by a statement that corrects any unapproved endorsement by FOSI or ICRA, and/or clarifies that there is no relationship between the parties except that the user has used an ICRA labelling system.
