Internet Content Rating Association

The Internet Content Rating Association, an international, non-profit organisation, is seeking a highly motivated Systems Operations Person to work within a small team and a range of external partners in an ambitious 18-month + project. ICRA plans to develop an internationally acceptable content rating system on the Internet and requires a systems, IP and Internet competent person to support the team, existing systems and assist in the development of a new platform. Success in this first stage could lead to further 30 month funding.

Systems Operations – Key Requirements

Education

The candidate will ideally be educated to ‘A’ Level or similar standard in a subject related to IP, Internet or systems development.

Employment History / Key Skills

The successful candidate will ideally have 3 years experience in the internet industry with a proven track record in web and office systems management. They will need to be able to demonstrate practical knowledge of HTML authoring, LAN management, configuration of typical ISP functionality and delivery of support services. In addition, they must be clear and precise in both written and oral communication, competent in Windows 95/98, Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator as a minimum. Experience with NT4 would be an advantage.

Personal Abilities

The Systems Development Assistant must be well organised, have a pragmatic approach to problem solving and be able to work under pressure to see a particular task through. He or she must be technically capable, work well in a small team, be flexible, able to take direction where needed and have a good sense of humour.

Systems Operations – Job Description

Responsible to the Technical Director for the following on a day to day basis:

  1. Effective running of the RSACi database and registration system
  2. Management of the icra.org mail domain, POP3 mailboxes and third party supplier
  3. Authoring, editing and management of the icra.org website and third party supplier
  4. Dealing with the technical support questions received by ICRA (email / phonecalls) including maintenance / development of an effective FAQ web site.
  5. Provide support for the office LAN and individual members remote access to e-mail
  6. Operate a secure listserve e-mail distribution system on behalf of the organisation
  7. Provide technical research capability to support the immediate team
  8. Carry out test / reporting activities on new / updated filtering software / new browser releases
  9. Ad hoc work packages as required

Systems Operations – Terms

  • Duration – The initial contract is for 18 months beginning April 2000. Depending on the success of the project and a subsequent bid for further funding, there is a possibility of extending the project by a further 30 months.
  • Salary circa 25,000 Euros – negotiable depending upon experience.
  • Holidays – 4 weeks plus statutory holidays.
